Central Coast Centurions Harold Matthews Cup Round 3 Match Report

The Centurions came up against a red hot Parramatta Eels outfit in their round 3 clash which also marked our first home game of the season.

After a great win in round 2 injuries and illness ruled out 3 players from taking part in the game and a head clash in the warm also had us on the back foot with Jye Diesel requiring stiches before a ball had even been kicked off.

The Eels showed what they are capable of scoring after 5minutes and taking an early 6 points – nil lead. For the majority of the half the boys dug deep in defence and took it to the Parramatta outfit completing 7 out of their next 8 sets and were unlucky not to cross the line for a try. The Parramatta team showed their class and scored three quick tries and took a 20 points – nil lead into the half time break.

The Parramatta team continued where they left off in the first half and ended up running out winners over the Centurions. The Centurions were depleted and had only a three man bench to work with and gave their all in the match.

Once again inspirational skipper Dillon Selby led from the front, Michael Power had a high work rate as usual along with Harley Bateup. Michael “Moo Man” McDonnell was once again outstanding in defence and popped up everywhere in attack and plays well above his weight and size week in week out.

The players player award and teams best and fairest went to Matt Geoffrey he took the team forward in attack was strong in defence and was sorely missed when he was not on the paddock. This week the boys take on Balmain Tigers in round 4 before returning home in round 5 against Western Sydney Academy.
