COMMUNITY members and businesses can hire Scout groups to do odd jobs for them including walking their dogs, cleaning cars, mowing and house work.

All money raised goes back to the Scout groups to be used to buy things like outdoor camping gear.

Breakers Country Club chief executive officer Ken Pearson hired a group from Erina Heights Scouts for the day.

“We got them to do some cleaning work on the course machinery and vehicles,” he said.

“I thought it was a great community exercise to support the Scouts and some good clean fun for the kids to keep them active.”

Mr Pearson said he would recommend the skills of the Scouts to others needing any work done.

“I think it’s a great idea, an old tradition that I thought had died out.”

Scouts Job Week, which runs throughout July, has been running for more than 55 years.

They can do a range of odd jobs from cleaning shoes, washing dishes, raking lawns to gardening, clearing rubbish and minor maintenance work.

Suggested payment is not less than $2 for each half hour worked.

The money goes back into local Scout groups.

If you’re interested in getting some Scouts out to do some work call your closest group.
