Picnic amongst towering pine trees

Why spend your lunchtime looking out over the boring backyard, when you could spend it looking out over acres of stunning pine trees? The Pines Picnic Area is a stunning picnic spot in Watagans National Park filled with beautiful, towering pine trees. You can spread out a picnic blanket with some sandwiches or cook up a storm using the free barbeques on site – all while listening to the soothing sounds of the rainforest.

 

Explore a Japanese garden

There’s no need to spend $800 on plane tickets to Japan, when you can get a little taste of the country right here on the Central Coast! The Edogawa Commemorative Garden is located at Gosford Regional Gallery in East Gosford, and is stunning tribute to Gosford’s sister city Edogawa. The gardens stretch out over 4000 square metres and include a beautiful koi pond, bridge, pavilion, a traditional teahouse and a raked dry-stone garden.

Explore a panoramic lookout

We all know that there’s nothing more beautiful in this world than your significant other, but boy – Warrah Lookout is definitely close!  Tucked away in Brisbane Water National Park, this stunning lookout offers up scenic views of Broken Bay, the Hawkesbury River and out to the Pacific Ocean. With spectacular panoramas and beautiful surrounds, this place will take your breath away almost as much as your significant other!

Attend the iconic pelican feed

A normal trip to the zoo for us Coasties involves organising hotel rooms, train tickets and entry passes days and even weeks in advance. Well, you don’t have to worry about any of that because you can have an animal experience right here on the Central Coast – without the planning and without the price tag. The pelican feed is an iconic and much-loved activity that takes place 365 days of the year. You can watch as dozens of pelicans enjoy their daily food, all while learning about the history of the feed, pelican anatomy and more! Catch it at 3.30pm every day at Memorial Park!

 

Hike to a beautiful waterfall

For all those fit couples out there, why not skip the gym and spend the day hiking instead? The hike to Kariong Brook Falls is steep and challenging, but comes with a fantastic reward – the sight of a stunning waterfall. Starting on Woy Woy Rd, the track follows the Tommos Loop Fire Trail before branching right into the Hawkesbury Track, passing Tommos Campground and arriving at the spectacular falls.
