5 stunning secret spots on the Central Coast

3 min read

Shhhhh!

Emerald Pool I Popran National Park

This naturally-formed swimming hole can only be reached by a three-kilometre hike through the rugged bushland – but trust us when we say it’s definitely worth it! These stunning natural pools are absolutely breath-taking. Not only is the water a beautiful shade of emerald, but the pools are surrounded by blooming wildflowers and vibrant trees. The waters of the pool are crystal clear with the emerald hue of the pool arising from hundreds of green ferns that line the rocks of the bottom! Find out more here.

Kariong Hieroglyphs I Kariong

Take in a little bit of history at this intriguing hidden spot in Kariong! Hidden away on a rock face in Brisbane Water National Park, a breath-taking sight can be found – hundreds hieroglyphs carved into two rock faces. The 300+ carvings were first discovered back in the 1970’s and have since caused much speculation from both academics and locals. However, the official story behind them is still completely unknown. Off the beat in path, they can be hard to find, so make sure to use these coordinates –  Location: S 33.45138, E 151.30324. Find out more about the glyphs here.

Boarding House Dam Circuit I Watagans National Park

The Boarding House Dam walk is a spectacular short hike in tucked away in Watagans National Park. Only 600m in length, the gentle walk journeys through a stunning canopy of pristine rainforest, past seas of lush ferns and vibrant green mossy rocks, and to a beautiful small creek and picturesque dam – both of which are perfect for a paddle with the kids. Find out more about this beautiful area here.

Rumbalara Reserve and Katandra Reserve I Gosford, Lisarow and Holgate

Despite these two suburban reserves basically being in the backyards of many Coasties, they seem to get left off our radars as a great spot to visit! Rumbalara and Katandra are two connected reserves that span the area between Gosford, Lisarow and Holgate, filled with great hiking opportunities, breath-taking views of the Brisbane Water and stunning scenes of Australian flora.  Find out more here.

Bongon Beach I Munmorah State Conservation Area

Often left off the maps of visitors to Munmorah State Reserve, Bongon Beach is the smaller, quieter neighbour of the popular Frazer Beach. Tucked away in a serene cove, the tiny forty-metre stretch of sand is known for its shimmering blue waters and gentle waves. This little slice of paradise is only accessible by a path from Snapper Point Road or – if you feel like a challenge – by scrambling across the rocky point from Frazer Beach. You can find the beach’s exact location here
