The best dog-friendly hikes on the Central Coast

3 min read

Take your pooch on an adventure!

Abbotts Falls Walking Trail I Olney State Forrest

Any dog owner knows that if you leave your dog cooped up in the house for too long, they’ll start acting out like moody teenagers – they’ll whine, they’ll bark, and they might just chew up your favourite shoes. If your pooch is at this whining stage, it’s probably time to wear them out on a long walk – and what better place to do that than the Abbott Falls Walking Track! Located in Olney State Forrest, this track is the longest on our list, sitting at 5.5km. The path kicks off at the Pines Picnic Area and winds its way down through gullies of blue gums and rainforests to Abbotts Falls Lookout before looping back up. Strickland Falls Track I Strickland State Forrest

On a weekend, you usually have to choose between exploring a beautiful landmark on the Central Coast, or walking your pup. Well, just like that little girl in the taco ad from 2007 says, ‘Why not both?’. Strickland Falls Track is a beautiful 1.5km loop that ventures down past wildflowers, creeks, and tall eucalyptus trees to a small waterfall best viewed a few days after rain. The short walk kicks off from the carpark near the Banksia Picnic Area, and you can view a map of the walk here.

The Pines Walking Track I Olney State Forrest

If your pooch is pining for a run amongst the bushes, then The Pines Walking track is the way to go! Set under beautiful tall pine trees, this 1km loop walks alongside Dora Creek through beautiful greenery and foliage, and past a small rock pool. This track starts from The Pines Picnic Area and loops around the creek before returning. The picnic area is also completely dog-friendly, so feel free to have a little post-hike feast with your furry best friend! Find a map of the walk here.

Arboretum Track I Strickland State Forrest

A dog’s perfect day would probably include three things – food, tennis balls, and plenty of trees to mark as their own. Well, you can easily tick off one of those things with the Arboretum Track in Strickland State Forrest! The 2.3km Arboretum Track goes past some of the oldest and most beautiful trees on the Central Coast including 150-year-old Australian Red Cedars, Bunyas and Hoop Pines. Your dog will have so many trees to choose from, they won’t know what to do with themselves! Click here to view a map of the track.
