The best places to kayak on the Central Coast

2 min read

Paddle up!

Colongra Creek and Lake Munmorah

We guarantee that the spots in Lake Munmorah will leave you in oar! The spectacular lake gives you a whole lot of space to do some hard and fast paddling, while the connecting Colongra Creek is the perfect spot for a gentle glide through the water. The easiest places to access the water with your kayak in tow is at the Lake Mumorah and Elizabeth Bay boat ramps.

Wyong River

Wyong River runs all the way from Yarramalong to Tacoma, and is a whopping 57 kilometres long, so it would be hard NOT to find a place to kayak here! If you’re after a bit of freshwater kayaking, we recommend starting at wharf at the rest stop on Old Maitland Road and paddling north.  If you’re after saltwater paddle, you should start at the boat ramp on Wolseley Rd in Tacoma and head to the west!

Narara Creek

Running from Narara into the gorgeous Brisbane Water in Gosford, Narara Creek is a stunning, calm channel perfect for beginner kayakers or young kids. It’s an absolutely beautiful area with emerald water, bright green foliage and plenty of wildlife. Holy creek, does that sound good!

Rip Bridge

If you need something to bridge the gap between your love of kayaking and your love of stunning views, then this is the place for you! Running beneath Rip Bridge is the stunning Brisbane Water River, and boy – is it the perfect spot for a weekend kayak! The water is relatively calm, and the views are absolutely spectacular. Be careful where you dock though as there are heaps of private jetties along this stretch. We recommend only docking at areas like Booker Bay public wharf just to be safe.

Tuggerah Lake

Tuggerah Lake is almost completely shut off from the ocean resulting in calm and gentle waters. So, do you know what that means? You won’t have to huff and puff to paddle against the tide! This spot is another great one for beginners and the kids, but make sure to be careful as the area is also a popular spot for boats.
