Our dreams of a water park on our doorstep are one step closer to becoming a reality, with construction set to begin early next year on part of Lake Macquarie’s water park!
Construction is set to begin on the over 55s lifestyle village aspect of the Cedar Mill precinct by April next year, with the construction of the rest of the site set to begin next year as well according to The Source Weekly.
Lake Macquarie City Council has approved 427 land lease homes, with the 25ha site set to become one of the largest communities in NSW according to Ingenia Communities CEO Simon Owen.
“This will be the largest project we have ever undertaken in NSW and probably the largest land lease community that we’re aware of in the state,” Mr Owen told The Source Weekly.
The over-55s village will join a 9-hectare family and community space, a 28-hectare cultural, arts and events space and a 10-hectare tourist accommodation site on the former 90-hectare Morisset Gold Course.
In amongst all that, there will be a water park, multiple restaurants and cafes along with a 30,000-capacity outdoor concert venue.

The Lake Macquarie water park is set to feature up to eight water slides, two water dumpers, a large run through sprinkler, a mini lazy river and up to 20, yeah 20, ten feet high shaped sprinklers according to our friends over at Coasties Mag, who say it will be the largest in the nation.

The $235 million development – which has been named Cedar Mill – is still in the final planning stages but much of it has already been approved by Lake Macquarie Council.
The final piece needing approval is the outdoor concert venue which is set to have a capacity of up to 30,000 and is proposed to attract headline international artists and performances to Lake Macquarie and the Hunter.
“We got approval for all but one – the development application for the live music event venue – because we need to do further studies, but we expect it to be approved as soon as we’ve done what’s required,” Winarch Capital Managing Director Paul Lambess told The Weekly Source.
Developers Winach Capital said the precinct is in an ideal position, strategically located one hour from Sydney, with strong population growth and exceptional access to the M1 and major commuter rail links.
It is expected that Cedar Mill will strengthen and expand Morriset’s growth and will be a catalyst for the continued development of the area.
Approximately, 1,124 jobs will be created during construction, with 475 long-term jobs and approximately $167 million in economic benefits for the region as it will be one of the largest projects ever seen for the Lake Macquarie region.
