The Queen Returns To Windsor Castle After Overnight Hospitalisation

2 min read

Buckingham Palace has confirmed Queen Elizabeth II has returned to Windsor Castle after being hospitalised for an undisclosed illness.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen remains in good spirits despite her stay in hospital.

“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today [Thursday], and remains in good spirits,” the Palace said in a statement.

A royal source reveals the Queen stayed in hospital overnight for practical reasons, while dismissing concerns her visit was in any way linked to COVID-19.

She was back at her desk on Thursday afternoon and undertaking light duties.

The news comes just days after the Queen cancelled a trip to Northern Ireland after doctors told her to rest.

The monarch released a statement saying she was disappointed she was unable to complete the two-day trip.

The Queen “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days” according to a statement earlier in the week.

“Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow,” the Palace said at the time.

“The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland, and looks forward to visiting in the future.”

The Queen was spotted just last week using a walking stick during a public event for the first time in 20 years.

Queen Elizabeth II is still expected to attend the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland on October 31.
