Top 5 surf spots on the Central Coast

3 min read

Grab your board!

The weather has warmed up, the wetsuits have been stripped off, and the sun is shining over the beaches of the Central Coast. So, do you know what that means? It’s the summer surfing season!

To celebrate, we’ve teamed up with the crew over at East Coast Surfboards to take a look at some awesome surf spots on the Coast to put on your list. Plus, we’ve decided to make buying your next board a little bit easier by matching a board to every spot!

Pelican Beach I Magenta

Pelican Beach is a great spot for experienced surfers looking for fast, hollow waves that are more powerful than The Rock’s biceps. This beach can only be accessed through Pullman Magenta Shores Resort, but don’t worry – you don’t have to be a guest to access the beach. Plus, it’s known for its great frequency with good waves hitting this spot as often as Australia changes Prime Ministers!

RECOMMENDED SURFBOARD: McKee Byron Twin – This board offers up high speed, excellent pivot, and great lift. Find it here.

Shelly Beach I Shelly Beach

Sometimes we need to just slow it down – slow down your workload, slow down your workout routine, or slow down your Netflix binge-watching. The same goes for your surfing. It does wonders to skip out on the hard, fast waves for a day or two, and opt for some gentle surf. Shelley Beach is a great spot to do this. It’s nice and easy swells are gentle for the beginners in the water, while the short, small waves are perfect for the experienced surfer looking for a calm surf

RECOMMENDED SURFBOARD: Classic EPS – Designed for beginner and intermediate surfers, this board offers excellent control and great nose riding on smaller waves. Find it here.

Shark Cove I Bouddi National Park

Look, this spot definitely isn’t for anyone who can barely get through Jaws without covering their eyes. Located to the south-east of Maitland Bay, Shark Cove got its name from the large population of white pointers that swim in its bounds. It should only be visited by experienced surfer’s familiar with sharing the ocean with Jaws. Despite the sharks, this spot is a hub of fast, fun and stimulating waves – perfect for the experienced surfer looking for a bit of a challenge.

RECOMMENDED SURFBOARD: FF2 V-Flex – This board gives an effortless paddle in tough spots, and holds the line perfectly when in barrels. Find it here.

North Entrance Beach I The Entrance

In the words of Forrest Gump, “life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get”. Well, North Entrance Beach is like a big box of chocolates. Every day is different at this beach with short, hollow waves sweeping in one day, while long mushy swells hit the next. Across a week, there’s guaranteed to be swells to suit every kind of surfer and every kind of experience level.

RECOMMENDED SURFBOARD: The Bulldog – This redesigned classic has been reinvented to make it perfect for everything from two-foot mush to overhead barrels. Find it here.

Forresters Beach I Forresters Beach

Just like a stern lecture from your mum, the waves at this spot just go on…and on… and on. On a normal day, the waves at Forresters Beach can get up to 150m long, but on the rare occasion, this spot can get waves up to 450m. In the right spots, the waves are not only long but powerful and hollow, making it the perfect conditions for high-speed tricks.

RECOMMENDED SURFBOARD: Driver – This step-down performance short board has outstanding speed and performance, perfect for throwing around and holding the rail in hollow waves.  Find it here.
