5 reasons why you should NOT buy a white wedding dress

2 min read

White isn’t for everyone.

The photos will look amazing

There’s only so many ways you can make a plain white dress look interesting in your photos, and we guarantee that it has been done before. Don a coloured dress, and you’ll be able to experiment with contrasting colours and eye-catching layouts. Make sure you’ve got a creative photographer on board too. If you’re in the Central Coast area, we suggest giving Seasons in Art Photography a call to bring your colours to life.

White doesn’t look good on everyone

If you’re like some of us here in the Star104.5 offices, two seconds in the sun causes not only painful sunburn but the sudden appearance of hundreds of unwanted freckles. To avoid that, most of us live our lives in the shade or under a thick layer of sunscreen – meaning that our skin is a little bit pale and definitely would not go with a bright white dress. The photos would come out looking like a wedding dress shaped ghost. No thanks!

You can wear it again

Who wants a big poufy skirt taking up a quarter of your closet space for the rest of your life? No thanks! We need to use that space for all of our impulse clothing purchases that we haven’t worn once! The good thing about wearing a non-traditional wedding dress is that you can pull it out down the track when a fancy event finds its way onto your calendar.

You’ve got more jewellery options

When it’s time to select your pieces for the big day, those with white dresses tend to get stuck with boring old silver and gold out of fear of clashing with the white. For those who decide on an untraditional dress, your options grow exponentially! Head to Seaspray Valuations and Fine Jewellery for some stunning and colourful jewellery. Just imagine how these pink Serenissima Murano earrings would look paired with a shimmering gold dress.

It’s your wedding

When it comes down to it, your wedding is just that – your wedding. It doesn’t matter what your wedding planner says, or what you best friend says, or even what your annoying mother-in-law says – you need to be happy on your big day! And if that happiness comes from wearing a canary yellow dress with pink tassels, then just do it!
