“You could probably buy all the ingredients for less and have it everyday at home”

The deconstructed food trend exploded in 2017 with deconstructed desserts appearing on restaurant menus and Instagrams all over Australia.

However, in a bid to be trendy, some cafés have taken the deconstruction a little too far and started deconstructing meals that definitely didn’t need to be taken apart. And after a woman has slammed their deconstructed avo on toast, it seems that The Kettle Black café in south Melbourne might just be one of those cafes.

Writer Jess McGuire took to Instagram to vent her frustration at the deconstructed $18 deconstructed breakfast she was served. The post shows two slices of bread, half an avocado, a small square of feta, and a slice of lime.

A woman has slammed a café's brunch offering after she ordered avocado toast - only to find she had to make it herself

On the post, she wrote: ‘I’m not sure you guys will ever fully understand the level of annoyance I felt being handed this alleged ‘avocado toast with feta’ breakfast that cost $18 today. “Pretty deconstructed, isn’t it?” I dryly remarked to the waitress, to which she smiled enthusiastically and nodded.

“What f**king next, being handed an avocado seed and told to farm the land and grown my own crop over several years before returning to the café to finally enjoy my breakfast?”

The post was also shared on Twitter, with many people offering up their option.

“$18. You could probably buy all the ingredients for less and have it everyday at home” one Twitter user wrote.

A spokesperson for The Kettle Black café told Daily Mail Australia that the dish was extremely popular, and called the conversation surrounding the dish “long gone”.
