Bakers Delight announce more store closures

1 min read

“We haven’t been able to sustain businesses.”

The home of Vegemite Scrolls and Hot Cross Buns has dropped some sad news.

Bakers Delight has announced it will be closing two of its stores in Darwin, Northern Territory in June.

Daily Mail report Bakers Delight joint chief executive Elise Gillespie confirmed the news and said the company was closing franchises at Darwin City and Casuarina Square.

“Unfortunately, with the economic climate in Darwin, we haven’t been able to sustain businesses,” Gillespie told Newscorp.

Gillespie says it’s the drop in foot traffic that caused the closures.

“Across bakeries in Darwin the last few years foot traffic has dropped quite considerably. We often make it through the wet season by what we achieve through the dry.”

The new closures come after the company closed the doors on Bakers Delight Mitchell Centre in Darwin’s CBD in February.
