Nope, it wasn’t for popping!

Look, we’re going to admit that we can’t put a package in the mail or pack up a house without spending at least 2.5 minutes popping the bubble wrap.

But did you know that it was originally designed for something completely different?

Yep, bubble wrap was originally created to be wallpaper!

Now, while you pick your jaw up off the floor, let us tell you all about it!

Back in 1957, two men – Marc Chavannes and Alfred Fielding – fused two shower curtains together to create a new style of wall paper. They then attempted to sell the product first as wall paper then as greenhouse insulation – both unsuccessfully.

It wasn’t until IBM launched one of the first computers did their new product finally find its purpose. They used the wallpaper to keep the tech safe during transport – and so bubble wrap was officially born!

But, to be honest, we’re still just going to use it to pop.
