It’s being called a miracle.

Florida resident Shane Hale had just set sail for the Florida Keys with his furry best friend Harley, when the weather suddenly changed and a dangerous storm set in above them.

The boat began to be thrown around in the “three metre swells”, slamming both Shane and Harley around the boat. Then the worst happened – Harley was thrown off the boat into the water.

“It was throwing me off the boat, slamming me back on the boat, throwing me off the back, slamming me back on the boat,” Mr Hale told WFLA news.

“I could see his (Harley’s) head bobbing behind the boat, the swells…”

Footage shared from before the storm began shows Harley wearing a life jacket attached to a tether.

However, when Hale tried to pull Harley back in by the tether, there was nothing at the end of the rope.

“I got to his tether and when I pulled the tether, I realised there wasn’t enough weight on the end for a dog to be one there. Sure enough, I pull it out and I just see his life jacket,” he continued.

Realising he had lost his best mate, Hale sat through the rest of the storm and “prayed for Harley”.

When the storm settled and Hale was able to make it to shore, he shared a plea for help to find Harley on his Facebook page.

In what was described as a miracle, Hale received a phone call the next morning with news that Harley had survived the storm and swam five kilometres to a nearby beach, where he was found!

According to reports, vets said the dog had a slight cade of pneunomina, but was expected to make a full recovery!
