And one of our favourite food tops the list.
We’re all looking to cut down the price of our weekly shop for one reason or another. Perhaps you want a few extra dollars to pay off the mortgage a little quicker, or perhaps you’re saving your coin because you just can’t give up your expensive morning coffee habit. No matter why you want to save some money, we all know how hard it is to do so.
Well, now we might have an answer why it’s just so hard. In the Channel 9 show, Eat Well for Less, finance journalist Ross Greenwood reveals that us Aussie’s actually pay some of the highest grocery prices in the world.
Grocery prices in Sydney are higher than New York, London and Hong Kong.
According to Greenwood, there are four main foods that are seriously raising that number at the end of our receipt – and here they are:
Cheese
Apples
Tomatoes
Mince
But, as it turns out, cheese is the biggest perpetrator for raising the cost of the weekly shop. If we didn’t spend so much on cheese, New York would be sitting in the top spot.
9Honey recommends swapping out different cuts of meat or different vegetables instead of purchasing these top four expensive foods is the key to reducing your weekly shop.
