Make sure your best friend is safe!
Central Coast pet owners will have the chance to get their animals microchipped for free with a microchipping day to be held at two Central Coast pounds next month.
On February 16th, Coasties can bring their four-legged friend to one of the Central Coast Animal Care facilities in Charmhaven and Erina for microchipping. The procedure – which normally costs around $45 – will be completely free on the day.
Microchipping a pet makes sure that you will be reunited with your furry best friend should they go missing.
“It’s an important and simple step in pet ownership, along with registering your animal and ensuring your contact details are up to date,” Mayor Jane Smith told the Central Coast Express Advocate.
Failure to microchip your pet could result in a fixed penalty notice of $180.
“We know how important it is to have your pet microchipped and that’s why Council is offering this free service.”
Close to half of the pets that come into the Central Coast Animal Care facilities are not microchipped, and only around 60% of these pets are reunited with their families – leaving 40% of animals lost and homeless.
Anybody who has their pet microchipped, registers their pet or updates their details attached to the microchip will receive a gift pack filled with treats, information and a toy.
