The man was forced to buy five new bags.
It’s been two weeks since Woolworths removed single use plastic bags from their stores, and despite surveys showing that the majority of customers supported the move, tensions continue to rise over the issue.
It was announced last week that Woolworths would be offering up free reusable bags up until July 8th to help ease the transition for the public.
However, one woman is claiming that her father was told by a Woolworths staff member that he could not use his reusable bags as “they were branded with a competitor logo” and was not offered the complimentary bags. The woman wrote on Woolworths Facebook page stating the staff member made her father buy new bags without even a mention of the free ones that are available until July 8th.
The woman goes on to write that her father bought five more bags so “not to inconvenience any other queued customer”.
“To also tell a customer that you’re unable to pack one item in with another when they’ve said they are OK with it and force them to buy YET ANOTHER bag for one single item is beyond ridiculous.
Woolworths is yet to comment on the incident.
