IKEA's new Aussie product will be a world first

2 min read

And it’s only available in Australia!

IKEA have annouced that they will be trialling a special kangaroo version of their famous meatballs for a limited time.

Launching to coincide with their Democratic Design Days Festival in Sydney, the ‘Roo Balls’ are made from 100% Australian meat – just like their existing beef and chicken meatball products.

IKEA Australia Food Manager Ivana Frost says the Roo Ball is IKEA’s healthiest yet:

“At IKEA, we want to make great design accessible for the many people, but design at IKEA doesn’t stop at LACK tables and POANG armchairs. Our menu and food ranges are designed with our design principles in mind.

“The Roo Ball was developed using sustainably sourced, high-quality kangaroo meat, which is a healthier alternative to other meats. We’re confident that we’ve created a new meatball that is truly delicious and, most importantly, can easily be recreated at home at an affordable price.”

Should the Roo Balls prove successful, IKEA hope to incorporate them into their permanent menu in Australia.

Also available at the design event will be IKEA’s new salmon balls, which are scheduled to launch officially in 2019.

Keen to sample them? Head to www.ikea.com.au/DDD to book tickets for the Democratic Design Days Festival – tastings will be open to the public between 11am – 1pm from August 27-29.
