Pizza for breakfast

Quite possibly the best news we’ve heard in a long time!

If you’re one of those people who doesn’t eat breakfast, you might change your tune after hearing that a nutritionist has suggested pizza is a healthier option than cereal! Apparently, so many cereals are packed with sugar, which isn’t an ideal way to start your day, whereas pizza has more fat and protein.

Chelsey Amer, a nutritionist from New York, told The Daily Meal:

“A slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash.”

The protein in the pizza will keep you fuller for longer and will prevent snacking between meals. Let’s keep in mind, however, pizza isn’t particularly healthy and we probably shouldn’t be reaching for it for breakfast on a regular basis.

If you’re looking for a more nutritious way to start the day, you could try Greek yoghurt with fruit, or oats with cinnamon and fruit.

Health’s contributing nutrition editor Cynthia Sass said:

“Even a second helping of dinner set aside from the previous night can make a healthy breakfast if it’s chock full of veggies and balanced—for example, a generous portion of veggies sauteed in [extra virgin olive oil] with herbs tossed with a lean protein, or chicken breast or lentils with a small scoop of quinoa.”

If you still want some pizza for breakfast, you could make your own using spinach, eggs, bacon and cheese. But if you still want cereal, just make sure you’re choosing on with whole grains, nuts or seeds, with fresh fruit.
