The most hated baby names of 2018 have been revealed

2 min read

Wasn’t #7 super popular like, five minutes ago?

Last week we were chatting about which names are the most popular in 2018 (those were Charlotte and Oliver, in case you were wondering) and we’re back today with a new update for anyone who is in the middle of/thinking about procreating.

Naming your little ones is serious business (well, unless you’re one of those people who names their kids things like ‘Hugh Jass’, then it’s clearly not serious at all) and there are a lot of factors that can impact your opinion of a name.

As The Sun has shared, a study completed by ChannelMum.com took a peek at the names modern parents are really not vibing along with the reasons behind that.

Here are the ten least popular names they discovered:

1. Alexa:

Apparently, this is all because of the new Amazon Alexa.

2. Felicia:

Can you guess what’s turned people off this one?

3. Katie / Cait:

The Sun shares that this one is slipping in popularity because there are so many famous Kates – they’ve referenced Kate Middleton and Caitlyn Jenner specifically.

4. Scarlett:

This one’s being eclipsed by Violet.

5. Lauren:

Reportedly, there are too many reality TV stars named Lauren so it’s seen as a little tacky, now.

6. Stan:

No, this is not because of the streaming service. Apparently, #Stan refers to stalker fans… which isn’t exactly a favourable title.

7. Ollie:

Okay, so let us get this straight: Oliver = cool but Ollie = uncool? Isn’t one the nickname for the other? In any case, the study is reportedly showing that in the US people associate Ollie with a pet food brand and so, aren’t keen on naming their kids after slop.

8. Christian:

Mr Grey and religious associations were the undoings of this name.

9. Harvey:

Ol’ mate Weinstein left a stain on the handle Harvey.

10. Ryan:

Apparently, the link to Ryanair has lead to a decline in popularity for this old Irish fave.

According to the study, some 83 per cent of parents will shy away from particular names because they remind them of people they do not like (we’re looking at you, Harvey). A further 81 per cent will not choose options that they feel do not suit the child’s surname.
