1 min read

You need to know this!

Make sure to you’ve got your ID handy when you’re wondering through the airport coffee shops, because if you don’t, you could be walking away with a $4200 fine.

Under draft laws recently introduced to federal parliament, people acting suspiciously will have to show identification to police.

According to Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, the new laws will allow the Australian Federal Police to remove people from the airport if they pose a security threat, and allow them remove them from the airport should they refuse to show ID.

He added that failure to comply with the checks could result in a fine of up to $4200.

Currently, police are only able to check ID’s if they can link a person and their behaviour to a specific offence.
