The move is designed to make parking “fairer”.

We’ve all been there. You run out of the shops after spending five minutes too long looking at the special buys at Aldi, but you’re too late. A dreaded parking ticket already sits under your window wiper.

Well, this nightmare might be a thing of the past with new “saving grace” periods being introduced for parking tickets in NSW.

The Berejiklian Government has announced a 10-minute leeway on parking fines as a part of a “fairer and more common sense” approach to fines.

The grace period would apply to drivers who have paid for a physical ticket or coupon within at least one hour of parking.

Meters that are unable to dispense tickets (such as pay-and-go or multi-space parking meters) were ineligible for the “saving grace period” as are areas in bus lanes and loading zones.

The changes will go into place on January 31st, 2019.
