This isn’t good.
Look, we’re gunna be honest here – we’ve gunned it through a few yellow lights in our time. We’ve also misjudged quite a few lights and ended up in the middle of an intersection on a yellow light too.
Well, we’re going to have to be more careful from now on because it could cost us a $348 fine and the loss of three demerit points.
In Queensland, it’s actually illegal to run a yellow light. More than 5300 people have been caught in the act since 2015, resulting in over $600,000 worth of fines.
“Motorists must stop on a yellow light unless it’s unsafe to do so,” a spokeswoman for Transport and Main Roads told The Courier Mail.
However, many people have pointed out the variations in laws across Australia, making it confusing for Aussie motorists. In NSW, you can enter an intersection on a yellow light without facing a fine, and Victoria and South Australia have similar rules.
