Grab the tissues and the Vicks Vapourub, because one of the worst and most dangerous flu strains is on it’s way this flu season – and it might not be covered by your vaccine.
According to Nine News, the strain of flu began in Queensland sometime last year, and has since spread globally.
Influenza B, or ‘Brisbane B’ as it as it has come to be known, isn’t that much different from Influenza A strains, but what makes it so dangerous is that it’s been left out of the flu vaccine for all those over the age of 65.
While those under 65 receive a vaccine that covers four strains – two A and two B, the pensioners vaccine only covers three strains – two A and one B – leaving out protection from the Brisbane B virus.
Pensioners are being advised to seek immediate medical attention should severe flu symptoms.
