Out-of-control bushfires are threatening homes in NSW

2 min read

Residents are being told it’s too late to leave.

Homes on the NSW south coast are currently under threat from bushfires with strong winds making the out-of-control fire even worse.

News.com.au reports that emergency warnings were issued to people living in Mount Kingiman, south of Ulladulla, and North Nowra/Bomaderry, but some have been told it’s too late to leave.

There are 830 firefighters battling over 70 bush and grass fires across NSW according to the NSW Rural Fire Service.

There are blazes in Bilpin, Glen Innes, south of Casino in Horningsea Park in Sydney’s west.

Motorists are being turned around on Bells Line of Road near Bilpin.

The NSW Rural Fire Service made the extremely rare decision to declare a total fire ban in winter, they wrote:

“We’ve been checking the record books and today’s total fire bans in Sydney, the Illawarra and Hunter are the earliest we’ve had in the season in nearly a decade. Dry conditions not helped by today’s strong winds.”

No properties have been lost yet but the strong winds and dry conditions are exacerbating the situation.

Winds from the northwest are expected to reach 110km/h this afternoon which will make things seriously difficult for firefighters.
