This is bad. Very, very bad.
In extremely cheery news today, apparently, Australia could soon get to a point where going outside will kill you. Oh and apparently, we’re also going to be hit with more violent storms and disease, so that’s great.
Apparently, the number of days that Darwin reaches a temperature of over 35 has increased to 20 days a year according to the Australia Institute. That temperature paired with 70 per cent humidity is considered very dangerous.
That kind of weather would see more heat-related deaths, interrupted sleep and avoidance of general life tasks. It would also create worse storms, more rain and diseases would probably spread quicker.
The Australia Institute wrote in the paper that Russia, India, Europe and Pakistan “have all experienced heat waves resulting in mass death events where thousands of people died sitting in their homes”.
Speaking with NT News, Liz Hanna from the Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at Australian National University said:
“This puts a real challenge on how people function. Can we work in a world as we know now in terms of going out shopping, working, picking up the children without putting lives at serious risk?”
So, there’s basically nowhere to hide and we’re all going to die from the heat and humidity. Excellent.
