Did you know?
If you’ve ever driven on the M1 during peak hour, you know what a nightmare it is to change lanes. Sometimes it’s harder to find a safe gap than it is to find an electrician that can give you a firm arrival time.
So, it’ll come as a major surprise to learn to that changing lanes on a roundabout is completely legal across ALL Aussie states.
According to Yahoo, drivers can switch lanes on a roundabout as long as a they follow the usual road rules for merging lanes. Drivers must indicate and give way to any vehicles in the lane they are entering.
However, despite it being legal, the manoeuvre is risky for motorists.
The general manager of the Australian Driver Trainer Association, Mick Humphries, emphasises that drivers need to increase their awareness when changing lanes on a roundabout as blind spots might not be the same.
We don’t know about you, but we’re going to stick to only merging on straight roads.
