Sydney toll prices increased amid rail line shutdowns

2 min read

Drivers are seriously frustrated.

Drivers could be paying up to $24.33 to use Sydney roads as new toll price increases hit the city.

On October 1st, toll prices jumped several cents on almost all of Sydney’s motorways.

Motorists who use the Eastern Distributor have copped a $0.07 increase with cars now required to pay $7.46 per trip while trucks must fork out $14.92.

Meanwhile, the M2 price jumped $0.08 to $7.38 for cars and $22.13 for trucks. The M5, M7, Lane Cove Tunnel, Military Road, and Cross City Tunnel were all hit with similar increases.

Many motorists are furious at the price hike – especially due to its poor timing with the closure of essential rail lines.

Many commuters who normally avoid tolls are being forced to pay the increased price as the Chatswood to Epping rail line shuts down for seven months.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance addressed the press over the  timing, stating that the rail line would benefit commuters in the long run.

“I mean in seven months’ time there’ll be less cars on the road because Metro is expected to reduce by the next 20 years 30 million vehicle trips per year.”

Amid the frustration, the NSW government reminded motorists that they are entitled to free car registration if they spend over $25 per week on tolls.
