Top tips to make your dog feel loved

After all, they are man’s best friend!

Spend quality time together

We set aside time for our friends in our lives, so we must find a few moments for man’s best friend! No, we aren’t suggesting you take your pooch as your date to the latest romance movie (although we totally would if we could). Just take some time to focus on them! It could be a walk down to the corner shop, a trip to the beach, or even a game of fetch in the backyard. We are paw-sitive this will work!

Buy them a new toy when they need it

Although your faithful golden retriever might be content toying with rolled up socks for hours,  a new squeaky toy a few time times a year helps keep them entertained while you’re at work. Squawks Pet Store have an awesome selection that will send you barking mad! Say goodbye to those split tennis balls and frayed ropes, and say hello to squeaky toys, kongs, tug-o-war ropes and much more! You’ll be running to fetch these toys, but don’t worry – you don’t have to bring it back!

Set up a stable routine

Did you know that dogs can technically smell time? Yep, we are as surprised as you are! According to researchers, dogs can judge how long you have been at work by how much of your scent is left in the air, and can smell passage of time through changes in environment. This is how they know when to expect you home, when they will be fed, and when to tuck themselves into bed. Heavy disruption to their internal clock can result in them feeling a little bit ruff!

Cuddles!

Cuddles are one of the best ways to show your love to your pooch – and there’s science behind it! When a dog is cuddled by someone they trust, it increases oxytocin (also known as the love chemical) in their brains and helps them to form strong bonds with humans. According to the research, oxytocin levels were boosted by a massive 130% in canine brains when having a snuggle. And it’s not just the pups getting a boost! The same study found that oxytocin levels in the human brain were improved by a massive 300% when cuddling up to furry friends!
