Central Coast students to be among the first to receive free dental checks

1 min read

The program launched on Monday

Trips to the dentist for simple check up’s will soon be a thing of the past for hundreds of Central Coast primary school students thanks to a new initiative by the state government.

On Monday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Health and Medical Research Brad Hazzard and Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell officially launched the NSW Health Primary School Mobile Dental Program – a program that offers students free check up’s in mobile dental clinics.

The program officially kicked off at Penrith South Public School, with 35 mobile clinics expected to service up to 136,000 primary school students over the next four years.

Students in Central Coast, along with Western Sydney and the Mid North Coast, are to be the first regions to benefit from the program.

Students will receive a check of their teeth and gums, a risk factor assessment, and education about taking care of their dental health. Students could also receive x-rays, dental cleans and other care free of charge if required.
