Mosquitoes to flock to the Central Coast after wild weather

1 min read

Get your swatter ready!

Grab your mosquito coils and hold onto your Aerogard, because a massive swarm of mozzies could be heading to the Central Coast.

According to the mosquito researcher (what a job title, hey?) for NSW Health Pathology, the NSW east coast is set to see a massive increase in mosquito numbers – particularly near wetlands or salt water estuaries.

Dr Cameron Webb told ABC News that king tides, heavy rain, and warm temperatures have created perfect conditions for mosquitos to breed.

“It’s almost perfect conditions for the mosquitoes. We’ve have plenty of rain, and in December we have also had really big tides in our coastal wetlands,” Dr Webb said.

“Mozzies love all that water.”

The doc also went on to say that there’s nothing to fear with the influx – it’s just going to mean a whole bunch of Aerogard and a few more sneaky slaps when they land on you.

Dr Webb is advising people to forgo infective solutions like mosquito bands, and stick to lose clothing and insect repellent.
